Jeremy Loops jamming on Plaza

Students gathered on the stairs of Jameson Hall during meridian on Thursday 6 October 2011 to watch upcoming musical star, Jeremy Loops, perform in support of Green Campus Initiative’s (GCI) Green Week. The UCT crowd bore the heat for the first real appearance of summer on campus.

Jeremy Loops, a 26 year old up-and-coming one-man folk band from Kommetjie, has made his name performing in clubs around Cape Town, such as The Assembly. His music is an eclectic mix of folk, hip-hop, blues and funk. He was able to tie all these elements together with his signature use of loop pedals, adding layer upon layer to the textured tracks he created on the spot, demonstrating his extensive rhythmic talent. His breezy use of crowd interaction personalised the performance and got everyone standing and moving along with him.

Loops was joined by Jamie Faull on saxophone, Andre Geldenhuys on electric guitar and Motheo Moleko provided the hip-hop edge to accompany his beat-boxing skills. Loops himself used a guitar, a ukulele, a harmonica and what seemed to be a child’s toy in his performance – sometimes all within the same song.

If more Jeremy Loops is what you crave, he will be making an appearance on Saturday 8 October 2011 at Rocking the Daisies.
