- This was the scene on Stegman Road just before 7h00 yesterday as police began their investigations into the death of local businessman Chirs Drummond.

Well-known property developer Christopher Drummond was found dead Tuesday morning in the street outside an office park in Claremont.

Warrant Officer November Filander said that security guards found Drummond’s body on Stegman Road at 6h00 on 6 April, in front of Wadda nightclub and directly opposite to UCT’s Claremont Jammie Shuttle bus stop.

Filander said the circumstances of the death were still being determined, although to witnesses at the scene it appeared that Drummond had fallen from the Stadium on Main parkade. It was unclear whether Drummond had simply fallen or had jumped intentionally.

According to police reports, Drummond’s car was found on the fourth level of the parkade, with both driver and passenger side doors open, and nothing was taken from the vehicle or Drummond.

“Drummond’s body had no visible injuries and he was declared dead on the scene. We do not know what killed him. We are waiting for the post mortem results," Filander said.

Students on the way to catch their morning shuttle were visibly disturbed by the scene.  One student commented, “I can’t believe this happened here...life is so fragile.”

Stegman Road remained closed for most of the day as investigators and forensic teams worked at the scene. The Jammie Shuttle stop was temporarily relocated to Main Road.

Drummond was the co-owner and director of New Property Ventures, the developers of Stadium on Main, the office block where he was found dead.

However, he was best known for his work regenerating the Claremont CBD as part of the Claremont Improvement District Company, which he headed for many years.
