Final sitting of Student Assembly 2012

The final sitting of the Student Assembly for 2011 took place on Wednesday 12 October. Current and future SRC members, as well as other student leaders, attended the meeting .

The final sitting went smoothly, with little debate throughout the proceedings. Amanda Ngwenya, the 2011 SRC President, began with a political report. In her report she gave ten Churchill quotes to engage and encourage future student leaders, including the 2012 SRC.

Ngwenya also spoke of the successes that the 2011 SRC has had. She included among these the New Hope Summit, the Change Campaign and the SRC Internship programme. She concluded that the 2011 SRC has a proud legacy to pass down to the 2012 SRC.

Sean Darge, 2011 Secretary-General of the SRC, presented the SRC's organisational report. In the report Darge highlighted key projects that should be taken forward into the next year by both the SRC and the Student Assembly, such as the UCT interactive media proposal and the SRC Internship programme.

A financial report for the past year was given by the SRC Treasurer Aboobaker Kalla. In this report Kalla emphasised the ±R150 000 increase in the amount of money raised through the Entertainment portfolio (held by Ross Hare) by the 2011 SRC, compared to that of the previous. Kalla was praised by members of the Student Assembly for his handling of finances over the year.

At the end of the meeting the Student Assembly Management Committee was elected by members of the Student Assembly. Lusani Nemalili was elected Chairperson and Kabelo Musi was elected Deputy Chair for 2012.
